The Whitby AMOS club will run a regular review spot throughout
its life. Anything from games, business software, books and
any other AMOS related articles.
If you want to sent in some of your work for review and a mention
then drop me a line here at the club. Heres just some
of the articles we will be covering in the coming issues:
AMOS PROFESSIONAL AMOS PRO COMPILER C.R.A.F.T
MASTERING AMIGA AMOS AMOS IN ACTION ULTIMATE AMOS
Plus various AMOS PD titles, and of course, your work.
Well lets start our new section with a review.
TITLE..........AMOS IN ACTION
AUTHOR/S.......ANNE & LEN TUCKER
PUBLISHERS.....KUMA BOOKS
PRICE..........£12.95 net ISBN...........074570221
Well what a lovely little book this is. 136 pages of hints,
tips and ideas that you will find valuable. As the title of the
book says it is truly 'AMOS in Action'. You are taken from the
design stage of a little game called Marvin the Martian and are
gently brought through to the end of the project. A list of
procedures are described in clear and consice detail, as well
as program structure. This book is well written and you don't
get bogged down with technical jargon like some other books i
could mention. You can also send of for the full game Marvin
the Martian which comes with source code and is free to buyers
of this brilliant book. Just think you are paying your money
for your book and plus the cost of a stamp to get your disk,
all for under twenty quid. what a bargain.
I have just been informed about a further book of Anne & Len
Tuckers called AMOS in Education', which if it is as well
written and as informative as this book should be something.
A review soon.
TOTALLY RECOMMENDED....9 OUT OF 10
TITLE ...........AMOS PROFESSIONAL
AUTHORS/S........FRANCOIS LIONET
PUBLISHER........EUROPRESS SOFTWARE
PRICE............£38.99(APPROX)
Wonderfully big! the sheer power of this baby is breath
taking(its even faster when compiled!). With over 200 new
commands, there is simply no excuse for any AMIGA owner not to
have a copy of AMOS. Its not as fast or powerful as assembler,
but it's not fair of it. Plus it is a lot easier to access then
assembler. The programmer, Francois Lionet has really improved
AMOS since its earlier incarnation a few years back. As stated
earlier with over 200 new commands which brings the total to
well over 700 and with a much nicer lookng and easier menu
systems, this is simply a joy to use.
The manual is well written by Mel Croucher and Steven Hill,
with nice examples and programs to use. Heres a list of just
some of the new features: Arexx support, Med music, New object
editor and generally faster and smother operation. If your a
beginner to AMOS then i would approach this with caution. Its
not an easy level into AMOS programming. You may be better of
with 'Easy AMOS', but hardened programmers should search and
buy this immediately.
TOTALLY RECOMMENDED....9 AND HALF OUT OF TEN
PS..By the way Francois. Whereas our AGA chip support my friend?
